Preparations For the Craft Mela
We recently talked about organising a craft mela in our school. All the things displayed there were prepared by the underprivileged children who were selected in the competitions in guidance of our group members Angad and Sheffi. The diyas were decorated by 4 girls living in Bengali Market, South City 2, Gurgaon who were selected through our first competition. The shagun envelopes were made by the members of our school’s interact club and were decorated by children selected in the third competition which was in Bagia School, South City 2. We setup a stall in our school, Amity International, Sector 46, Gurgaon’s Craft Mela. We spread awareness by distributing our brochures and also sold handcrafts made by the underprivileged children. The handicrafts included decorated Diwali diyas, occasion cards, shagun envelopes, etc. Everything was made from recycled material. We received a very good response and a earned about 1000 rupees. On 11th of October, we collaborated with an organization named Disha in the society Uniworld Gardens, Gurgaon which helps in teaching the children of workers of the society. The 3rd location of our project was in Bagia School. Bagia is an NGO running in South City 2 who aim at primary education for the underprivileged. We talked to them and arranged a date to conduct a drawing competition in their school. The date was 11th October 2011. Over 100 children participated in the competition with a lot of enthusiasm. Several of them possessed qualities of an artist, the only need is to enhance that talent. The second drawing competition was organised on 8th October at Kanhai Gaon, Sector 43, Gurgaon. Around 40 children participated in the competition and some of them did have really good talent in drawing.The time spent on drawing competition was around 1.5 hours and afterwards, all the children spent time telling their interests and qualities.
