Summer Camp @ Bagia School!

Discover I is proud to announce that it will be hosting a summer camp for the underprivileged kids in Bagia School, South City – II. Bagia is a school for underprivileged children where the kids of the nearby slum areas are taught without any fees.

We are looking for school students who would be willing to commute themselves to the place and teach the kids any activity over a period of 4-5 days (depending on the activity) from 9-11am between 14 May and 8 June ’12. For example, the activities can range from (not limited to):

Dancing
Singing
Drawing
Crafts
Computers
Vocational skills
Drama
Your choice of co-curricular activity

Loads of Things Happening at Sector 43, Gurgaon!

A singing competition was held at Sector 43, Gurgaon. Lots of talent tapped. A weekly dance class has also been organized there and the classes are taken by a volunteer from our school. Pictures and videos follow.

We distributed our brochures to the children of our school from IIIrd class to VIIth class. This will help us get more recognition.

Preparations For the Craft Mela

We recently talked about organising a craft mela in our school. All the things displayed there were prepared by the underprivileged children who were selected in the competitions in guidance of our group members Angad and Sheffi. The diyas were decorated by 4 girls living in Bengali Market, South City 2, Gurgaon who were selected through our first competition. The shagun envelopes were made by the members of our school’s interact club and were decorated by children selected in the third competition which was in Bagia School, South City 2. The greeting cards were made by the children selected from Kanhai Gaon. This way they learnt various things and could showcase their talent to the world.

Craft Mela @ Amity 46 Gurgaon

We setup a stall in our school, Amity International, Sector 46, Gurgaon’s Craft Mela. We spread awareness by distributing our brochures and also sold handcrafts made by the underprivileged children. The handicrafts included decorated Diwali diyas, occasion cards, shagun envelopes, etc. Everything was made from recycled material. We received a very good response and a earned about 1000 rupees. The money would directly go towards their betterment. You can know more about the preparations done by us in this post.

Fourth Spot: Uniworld Gardens (with Disha)

On 11th of October, we collaborated with an organization named Disha in the society Uniworld Gardens, Gurgaon which helps in teaching the children of workers of the society. We organized a drawing competition among those children, about 50 children of various ages participated and were very happy after the competition got over and received a little refreshment from our side. Results are yet to be announced. Pictures and a video follow.

We also had a lecture given by Angad to the children, followed by a prayer sung by the children. Here’s the video.

Third Location: Bagia School

The 3rd location of our project was in Bagia School. Bagia is an NGO running in South City 2 who aim at primary education for the underprivileged. We talked to them and arranged a date to conduct a drawing competition in their school. The date was 11th October 2011. Over 100 children participated in the competition with a lot of enthusiasm. Several of them possessed qualities of an artist, the only need is to enhance that talent. We also got to know about some children who were interested in dance and wanted to learn it from professionals. The competition ended with the distribution of refreshments. We enjoyed spending time with them and surely would not loose contact with them in future.
